तत्कृतं मतिवैषम्यं निरवद्यस्य न क्वचित् ॥ २१ ॥
tat-kṛtaṁ mati-vaiṣamyaṁ niravadyasya na kvacit
Synonyms
[It might then be asked, “How could Īśvara be engaged as a lowly charioteer?” (nanv īśvaraś cet kathaṁ nīce sārathyādau pravrttaḥ). Bhīṣma now answers this question in the following verse (tatrāha sarveti).71]; sarvātmanaḥ — of [i.e., for] Him, who is the Immanent Self of all living beings [sarveṣāṁ paramātmanaḥ72]; sama-dṛśaḥ — who views all things equally [who views Himself as equally present everywhere (sarvatra samam ātmānaṁ paśyataḥ)73]; advayasya — who is free from all duality [there being nothing in existence other than Him (tad-ananyatvāt)74]; anahaṅkṛteḥ — devoid of empirical ego [abhimāna-śūnyasya75]; niravadyasya — [and] hence flawless [bereft of attachment and so on (rāgādi-śūnyasya)]; na hi kvacit — there was not at all; mati-vaiṣamyam — an attitude of personal bias; tat-kṛtam — in regard to these different roles that He enacted [there was no estimation of the above mentioned roles as either higher or lower and thus as suitable or unsuitable for Him (nīcocca-karma-kṛtaṁ mama yogyam ayogyam iti)].
Translation
He who is the Immanent Self of all living beings, who views all things equally, who is free from all duality, devoid of empirical ego, and hence flawless, had no attitude of personal bias in regard to these different roles that He enacted.
