eṣa vai bhagavān sākṣād ādyo nārāyaṇaḥ pumān
mohayan māyayā lokaṁ gūḍhaś carati vṛṣṇiṣu

Synonyms

eṣaḥ — He; vai — indeed; bhagavān — [is] Bhagavān; sākṣāt [eva62] — Himself [(svayam); here the word sākṣāt denies the possibility of His being a partial expansion (sākṣād ity anenāṁśatvaṁ nirākṛtam)63]; ādyaḥ — the Primeval; pumān — Person [the original source of all creation (mahat-sraṣṭā)]; nārāyaṇaḥ — Nārāyaṇa [the Supreme Deity of the spiritual sky (paravyomādhipatiḥ)]; mohayan — bewildering; lokam — the world; māyayā — by His māyā potency; carati — He roams about [or sports (viharati)64]; gūḍhaḥ — [while] concealed [with His supreme majesty hidden (ācchādita-paramaiśvarya)65]; vṛṣṇiṣu — among the Vṛṣṇis [acting as though just one among them (kaścid yādava ivānukaroti)66].

Translation

He indeed is Bhagavān Himself, the Primeval Person, Nārāyaṇa. Bewildering the world by His māyā potency, He roams about while concealed among the Vṛṣṇis.
