कृष्णोऽस्त्री गाण्डिवं चापं सुहृत्कृष्णस्ततो विपत् ॥ १५ ॥
kṛṣṇo’strī gāṇḍivaṁ cāpaṁ suhṛt kṛṣṇas tato vipat
Synonyms
[it is highly astonishing (ati vismayānvitaḥ);48 or exceedingly improbable (atyantāsambhāvitam idam)49]; vipat — [that] misfortune; [could have occurred (abhavat)50]; tataḥ — even there [tatrāpi51]; yatra — where [in the presence of (yasmin)]; rājā — King Yudhiṣṭhira; dharma-sutaḥ — the son of Dharma [signifying his wealth of virtue and absence of sin (puṇya-sampatti pāpābhāvaś ca darśitaḥ)]; vṛkodaraḥ — Bhīma; gadā-pāṇiḥ — the wielder of the mace [signifying his physical power (śarīraṁ balaṁ pradarśitam)]; kṛṣṇaḥ — Arjuna; astrī — the archer [(dhanvī), signifying his skill in battle (yuddha-naipuṇyaṁ darśitam)]; cāpam — [equipped with] the bow; gāṇḍivam — [named] Gāṇḍiva [signifying his wealth in the form of extraordinary weapons (ṣāstra-sampattir darśitā)]; kṛṣṇaḥ — [and] Śrī Kṛṣṇa; suhṛt — their friend [signifying the assistance of the omnipotent Supreme Controller (parameśvara-sahāyatā darśitā)].
Translation
How paradoxical it is that misfortune could have occurred even in the presence of King Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of Dharma, Bhīma, the powerful wielder of the mace, Arjuna, the skilled archer equipped with the Gāṇḍiva bow, and Śrī Kṛṣṇa, their friend!
