sarvaṁ kāla-kṛtaṁ manye bhavatāṁ ca yad-apriyam
sapālo yad-vaśe loko vāyor iva ghanāvaliḥ

Synonyms

manye — I believe; sarvam — [that] all; yad-apriyam — of the grievous experiences [duḥkham]; [that occurred (abhūt)]; bhavatāṁ ca — even to you [(bhavatām api);45 although you are established in dharma (dharmātmanām api), here the word ca is used in the sense of api (cakāro’pi arthe)46]; kāla-kṛtam — were brought about by time [the insurmountable and inscrutable cause (dur-nivāro dustarkaḥ kāla eva kāraṇam)47]; yad-vaśe — under the control of which; lokaḥ — the entire universe [consisting of fourteen divisions of planetary systems (sarve’pi caturdaśa-bhuvanātmako lokaḥ)]; sapālaḥ — along with its galactic guardians [the guardians of the ten directions headed by Indra (indrādi-dik-pāla-sahitaḥ)]; [remains subjected (vartate)]; iva — just as [yathā]; ghanāvaliḥ — a mass of clouds [megha-paṅktiḥ]; [remains (vartate)]; vāyoḥ — under the control of the wind [vayor-vaśeḥ tathety arthaḥ].

Translation

I believe that all of the grievous experiences that occurred even to you were brought about by insurmountable time, under the control of which the entire universe — along with its galactic guardians — remains subjected, just as a mass of clouds remains under the control of the wind.
