युष्मत्कृते बहून्क्लेशान्प्राप्ता तोकवती मुहुः ॥ १३ ॥
yuṣmat-kṛte bahūn kleśān prāptā tokavatī muhuḥ
Synonyms
saṁsthite — upon the death [(mṛte);41 and ascension to heaven (svargaṁ gatavati)42]; atirathe — of that great warrior; pāṇḍau — Pāṇḍu; vadhūḥ — my daughter-in-law; pṛthā — Kuntī; bāla-prajāḥ — [both] as a mother left alone with young children [bāla-prajatva-daśāyām ekākiny eva kleśān prāptā]; tokavatī — [and] as a woman with her grown-up sons [yuṣmākaṁ prauḍha-vayastve sati tu tokavatī putrair yuṣmābhiḥ sahitāpi kaṣṭān prāptety arthaḥ]; muhuḥ — repeatedly [vāraṁ vāram43]; prāptā — had to face; bahūn — innumerable; kleśān — calamities; yuṣmat-kṛte — on your account [to raise and take care of you (yuṣmat poṣaṇa-pālanārthāya)44].
Translation
Upon the death of that great warrior Pāṇḍu, my daughter-in-law, Kuntī, both as a mother left alone with young children and as a woman with her grown-up sons, had to repeatedly face innumerable calamities on your account.
