SB 1.8.46

व्यासाद्यैरीश्वरेहाज्ञैः कृष्णेनाद्भुतकर्मणा ।
प्रबोधितोऽपीतिहासैर्नाबुध्यत शुचार्पितः ॥ ४६ ॥
vyāsādyair īśvarehājñaiḥ kṛṣṇenādbhuta-karmaṇā
prabodhito’pītihāsair nābudhyata śucārpitaḥ

Synonyms

prabodhitaḥ api — although instructed; vyāsa-ādyaiḥ — by sages such as Vyāsa; ajñaiḥ — who were unaware [ajānadbhiḥ184]; īhā — [of] the intention [abhiprāyaḥ]; īśvara — [of] Bhagavān [who were unaware of Kṛṣṇa’s twofold intention (kārya-dvaya-vidhāyakaḥ abhiprāyaḥ) to bring Yudhiṣṭhira to Kurukṣetra to honor the passing of His devotee Bhīṣma (sva-bhakta bhīṣma-niryāṇa-mahotsavāya), and to have Yudhiṣṭhira enlightened by Bhīṣma alone (tan-mukhenaivāyaṁ prabhodhanīya iti)]; kṛṣṇena [api] — [and] even by Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself; adbhuta-karmaṇā — the performer of supranatural deeds [such as His personally entering the heart of Yudhiṣṭhira and thwarting his discernment (svayam evāsya hṛdi praviśya avivekam utthāpitavān), in spite of externally sharpening his acumen through guidance provided by both He Himself and the sages headed by Vyāsa (bahiś ca sva-kartṛkeṇa vyāsādi kartṛkeṇāpi prabodhenāvabodham eva dṛḍhi-cakāra), doing so to broadcast throughout the world the celebrity of His exclusive devotee Bhīṣma as a superlative knower of the essential truths of dharma and jñāna (mad-ekānta-bhakto bhīṣmo’tiśayena dharma-jñana-tattva-jña iti loke vikhyāpayāmāsa)185]; itihāsaiḥ — by way of reexamining the previous events [pūrāvṛtta-kathanaiḥ186]; śucā arpitaḥ — the grief-stricken [(śucā vyāptaḥ san) Yudhiṣṭhira]; na abudhyata — could not be consoled [meaning that his discernment could not be aroused (vivekaṁ na prāpa)].

Translation

Although instructed by sages such as Vyāsa, who were unaware of Bhagavān’s hidden intention, and even by Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself, the performer of supranatural deeds, by way of reexamining the previous events, the grief-stricken Yudhiṣṭhira could not be consoled.
