प्राकृतेनात्मना विप्राः स्नेहमोहवशं गतः ॥ ४७ ॥
prākṛtenātmanā viprāḥ sneha-moha-vaśaṁ gataḥ
Synonyms
viprāḥ — O brāhmaṇas; cintayan — while lamenting; vadham — the death; suhṛdām — of his friends and relatives [mitra-bāndhavādīnām187]; ātmanā — with his mind [cittena188]; prākṛtena189 — altogether bereft of discernment [aviveka-vyāptena190]; rājā — King [Yudhiṣṭhira]; dharma-sutaḥ — the son of Dharma [Yamarāja]; gataḥ — having fallen; vaśam — under the sway; sneha — [of] affection [related to them (tat-prayuktaḥ)]; moha — [and] bewilderment [the non-ascertainment of duty and dishonor (kartvyākartavyānanusandhānam)]; āha — spoke [as follows].
Translation
O brāhmaṇas, while lamenting the death of his friends and relatives with his mind altogether bereft of discernment, King Yudhiṣṭhira, the son of Dharma, having fallen under the sway of affection and bewilderment, spoke as follows.
