स्त्रियश्च स्वपुरं यास्यन्प्रेम्णा राज्ञा निवारितः ॥ ४५ ॥
striyaś ca sva-puraṁ yāsyan premṇā rājñā nivāritaḥ
Synonyms
iti — [replying] thus; [to Kuntī]; bāḍham — let it be so [accepting Kuntī’s prayer (in verse 42) that her mind, devoid of any other object of affection, may continuously convey the flow of love unto Him (tvayi me’nanya viṣaya matir iti yat prārthitaṁ tad-bāḍham ity aṅgīkṛtya)181]; praviśya — [Kṛṣṇa] entered; gajasāhvayam — the city of Hastināpura; [where]; upāmantrya — He bade farewell [requested permission to leave (anujñāpya)]; tām — to her; ca — and; striyaḥ — the other women [headed by Subhadrā (subhadrā-pramukhāḥ)182]; yāsyan — [when] He was about to depart; sva-puram — for His own city [Dvārakā183]; nivāritaḥ — He was restrained; rājñā — by the king [Yudhiṣṭhira, who requested Him to remain there for a while longer (atraiva kiñcit kālaṁ nivaseti saṁprārthya)]; premṇā — out of love.
Translation
Replying to Kuntī, “Let it be so,” Kṛṣṇa entered the city of Hastināpura, where He bade farewell to her and the other women. When He was about to depart for His own city [Dvārakā], He was restrained by King Yudhiṣṭhira out of love.
