स्नेहपाशमिमं छिन्धि दृढं पाण्डुषु वृष्णिषु ॥ ४१ ॥
sneha-pāśam imaṁ chindhi dṛḍhaṁ pāṇḍuṣu vṛṣṇiṣu
Synonyms
[If Kṛṣṇa were to depart, it would be unpropitious for the Pāṇḍavas, and if He were to stay, it would be to the detriment of the Yadus (gamane pāṇḍavānām akuśalam agamane ca yādavānām). Being unsettled on both accounts, Kuntī prays to have her affection removed from them (ubhayato vyākula-cittā satī teṣu sneha-nivṛttiṁ prārthayate atheti).155]; atha — therefore; viśva-īśa — O Supreme Regulator of the Cosmos [he jagataḥ īśa niyantaḥ156]; viśva-ātman — O Immanent Self of the Cosmos [and of all living beings (he sarvāntarātman);157 or Life of the Cosmos (he viśva-jīva)]; viśva-mūrte — O Embodiment of the Cosmos [(he viśva-svarūpa), You, whose external form is the Cosmos (viśvaṁ mūrtir yasya)]; chindhi — please cut; imam — this; dṛḍham — rigid [inseverable by anyone other than You (tvad-vyatiriktena chetum aśakyam)]; sneha-pāśam — bond of affection; me — of mine [mama]; svakeṣu — toward my own kinsmen; pāṇḍuṣu — the Pāṇḍavas; vṛṣṇiṣu — [and] the Vṛṣṇis.
Translation
Therefore, O Supreme Regulator of the Cosmos! O Immanent Self of the Cosmos! O Embodiment of the Cosmos! Please cut this rigid bond of affection of mine toward my own kinsmen, the Pāṇḍavas and the Vṛṣṇis.
