भवतोऽदर्शनं यर्हि हृषीकाणामिवेशितुः ॥ ३८ ॥
bhavato’darśanaṁ yarhi hṛṣīkāṇām iveśituḥ
Synonyms
ke — what; vayam — [are] we; yarhi — when [yadā147]; bhavataḥ — You; a-darśanam148 — are absent from our vision [when You do not look upon us (yadā tvam asmān na paśyasi)]; pāṇḍavāḥ — [we] Pāṇḍavas; saha — along with; yadubhiḥ — the Yadus; nāma-rūpābhyām — both of substantial fame and fortune [nāmnā vikhyātyā rūpeṇa samṛddhyā ca]; [are then nothing at all (tadā na ke’pi ati tucchā ity arthaḥ)]; iva — just as; [upon the disappearance (adarśane)]; īśituḥ — of the impelling agent [the living being (jīvasya)]; hṛṣīkāṇām — of the senses [indriyāṇām]; [the senses, together with their names and forms, are then nothing at all (na kiñcin nāma ca rūpañ ca tad-vat)].
Translation
What are we when You are absent from our vision? We Pāṇḍavas along with the Yadus, both of substantial fame and fortune, are then nothing at all, just as upon the disappearance of the impelling agent [the living being], the senses, together with their names and forms, are then nothing at all.
