सुदर्शनेन स्वास्त्रेण स्वानां रक्षां व्यधाद्विभुः ॥ १३ ॥
sudarśanena svāstreṇa svānāṁ rakṣāṁ vyadhād vibhuḥ
Synonyms
vīkṣya — perceiving [vicārya46]; tat — that; vyasanam — inevitable calamity [in the form of the brahmāstra, which could not be repelled by any other weapon (brahmāstrasya astrāntarair anivartyatvāt duṣpariharam);47 here implying that it could not be counteracted quickly enough even by the Pāṇḍavas’ own brahmāstra weapons (tat jhaṭity aśakya-samādhānaṁ vyasanaṁ vipadam)48]; teṣām — of [i.e., that faced] them [the Pāṇḍavas]; ananya-viṣayātmanām — whose essential being was without any other object of attention [(na anya viṣaya ātmā yeṣām), meaning that their fixity was in Him alone (svaika-niṣṭhānām)49]; vibhuḥ — the Omnipotent, Omniscient [Bhagavān]; vyadhāt — granted [akarot50]; rakṣām — protection; svānām — of [i.e., to] His own [devotees (sva-bhaktānām) by counteracting the missiles (sāyakān nirasya)51]; sva-astreṇa — with His weapon; sudarśanena — Sudarśana.
Translation
Perceiving the inevitable calamity that faced them [the Pāṇḍavas], whose essential being was without any other object of attention, the Omnipotent, Omniscient Bhagavān protected His own devotees with His Sudarśana weapon.
