वपनं द्रविणादानं स्थानान्निर्यापणं तथा ।
एष हि ब्रह्मबन्धूनां वधो नान्योऽस्ति दैहिकः ॥ ५७ ॥

vapanaṁ draviṇādānaṁ sthānān niryāpaṇaṁ tathā

Synonyms
vapanam — shaving the head [śiro-muṇḍanam216]; ādānam — confiscating [apaharaṇam217]; draviṇa — property [or wealth (dhana)]; tathā — and; niryā-paṇam — exiling [nisāraṇam]; sthānāt — from the locality or community [nivāsa-sthānāt]; eṣaḥ hi — this itself; vadhaḥ — is death; brahma-bandhūnām — for a degraded brāhmaṇa; na anyaḥ asti — there is no other prescription [approved by scripture (śāstroktam)218]; daihikaḥ — of physical death [such as cutting off the head (śiraś chedādi-rūpaḥ)].
Translation
Shaving the head, confiscation of property, and exile from the locality or community — this itself is death for a degraded brāhmaṇa. There is no other prescription of physical death.
