मुच्यतां मुच्यतामेष ब्राह्मणो नितरां गुरुः ॥ ४३ ॥
mucyatāṁ mucyatām eṣa brāhmaṇo nitarāṁ guruḥ
Synonyms
asahantī — unable to bear [asahamānā162]; asya — his [Aśvatthāmā’s]; āna-yanam — having been brought [to her]; bandhana — bound by ropes [bandhanena]; satī — the virtuous lady [this embodiment of godliness (iyaṁ bhagavatā)163]; uvāca ca — eagerly insisted [out of a mixture of eagerness, agitation, and reverence (sambhramaḥ)164]; eṣaḥ mucyatām mucyatām — release him, release him [at once (tvarayā), implied by the repetition of the command (dvir uktiḥ)165]; [for]; brāhmaṇaḥ — a brāhmaṇa; nitarām — [is] by all means; guruḥ — worthy of respect.
Translation
Unable to bear that he had been brought [to her] bound by ropes, the virtuous lady eagerly insisted, “Release him! Release him! For a brāhmaṇa is by all means worthy of respect.”
