svānāṁ cānanya-bhāvānām anudhyānāya cāsakṛt
Synonyms
ayam — this; avatāraḥ — avatāric descent [prākaṭyam102]; te — of Yours [(tavaiva), as Sākṣāt Bhagavān named Śrī Kṛṣṇa (sākṣād bhagavataḥ śrī kṛṣṇākh-yasya); meaning Your appearance in this phenomenal world in Your own conscious essential being (sva-cinmaya svarūpeṇa prāpañcika-loke prākaṭyam)103]; tathā ca — like that [of other avatāras, such as the puruṣāvatāras and so on (yathānye puruṣādayo’vatārās tathā)]; jihīrṣayā — [is meant] to relieve; bhāra — the burden; bhuvaḥ — of the earth [for Your supreme devotees (parama-bhaktāyā)]; [To which Kṛṣṇa might question, “Is it not the case that the earth’s burden could be removed merely by My will?” (kiṁ bhu-bhāra-haraṇaṁ mad-icchā-mātreṇa na bhavati). In anticipation of this, Arjuna speaks the second half of the verse (tatrāha svānām iti).104]; [yet although You appear for the purpose of relieving the earth’s burden (bhūvo bhāra jihīrṣayā jāto’pi)]; ca — You also do so; asakṛt anudhyānāya — to serve as an object of constant meditation [to facilitate constant meditational worship of You (muhur nija-bhajana-saukhyāya)]; svānām — for Your own kinsmen [jñātīnām105]; ca — and; ananya-bhāvānām — for those who are exclusively devoted to You [for Your one-pointed devotees (ekānta-bhaktānām)].
Translation
This avatāric descent of Yours [as Sākṣāt Bhagavān, Śrī Kṛṣṇa], like that of other avatāras, is meant to relieve the burden of the earth, [yet although this is the case,] it is moreover meant to serve as an object of constant meditation for Your own kinsmen and for those who are exclusively devoted to You.
