अध्यगान्महदाख्यानं नित्यं विष्णुजनप्रियः ॥ ११ ॥
adhyagān mahad ākhyānaṁ nityaṁ viṣṇu-jana-priyaḥ
Synonyms
matiḥ — [his] consciousness; ākṣipta — captivated; guṇa — [by] the qualities; hareḥ — of Śrī Hari; bhagavān — the highly enlightened yogī [mahā-yogī51]; bādarāyaṇiḥ — Śuka, the son of Bādarāyaṇa [Vyāsa]; nityam — [and] ever [sarvadā52]; priyaḥ — beloved; viṣṇu-jana — [of] the devotees of Viṣṇu [meaning that he himself became dear to them (teṣāṁ priyo vā svayam abhavat);53 or that the devotees of Viṣṇu became dear to him (viṣṇu-janāḥ priyā yasyeti), signifying that he longed for their association (tat-saṅgati-kāmaḥ), as understood from the context of the discussion (vyākhyānādi prasaṅgena)54]; adhyagāt — underwent the study [adhītavān]; mahat — [of this] vast [vistīrṇam55]; ākhyānam — narrative.
Translation
His consciousness captivated by the qualities of Śrī Hari, the highly enlightened yogī, Śuka, the son of Bādarāyaṇa [Vyāsa] and ever beloved of the devotees of Viṣṇu, underwent the study of this vast narrative.
