SB 1.7.10
आत्मारामाश्च मुनयो निर्ग्रन्था अप्युरुक्रमे ।
कुर्वन्त्यहैतुकीं भक्तिमित्थम्भूतगुणो हरिः ॥ १० ॥
ātmārāmāś ca munayo nirgranthā apy urukrame
kurvanty ahaitukīṁ bhaktim ittham-bhūta-guṇo hariḥ
Synonyms
sūtaḥ — Śrī Sūta; uvāca — said; munayaḥ — the sages; nirgranthāḥ api — though liberated from the knot of egoic identity [(nirgatāhaṅkāra-granthayaḥ);49 or though beyond all binding injunctions and prohibitions (vidhi-niṣedhā-tītāḥ)50]; ca — and; ātmārāmāḥ — [though] delighting in the Self alone; kurvanti — engage in; ahaitukīm — causeless [devoid of motivation for any fruit (phalābhi-sandhi-rahitāḥ)]; bhaktim — devotion; urukrame — to Śrī Kṛṣṇa, whose play [krama] is majestic [uru]; hariḥ — [because] Śrī Hari; ittham-bhūta-guṇaḥ — [is] of such essential nature [that He captivates even those who delight in the Self alone (ātmārāmāṇām apy ākarṣaṇa-svabhāvo guṇo yasya)].
Translation
Śrī Sūta said: The sages, though liberated from the knot of egoic identity, and though delighting in the Self alone, engage in causeless devotion to Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Majestic player, for Śrī Hari is of such essential nature that He captivates even them.
