संस्थां च पाण्डुपुत्राणां वक्ष्ये कृष्णकथोदयम् ॥ १२ ॥
saṁsthāṁ ca pāṇḍu-putrāṇāṁ vakṣye kṛṣṇa-kathodayam
Synonyms
atha — now; vakṣye — I shall speak to you; janma — [about] the birth; karma — actions; vilāpanam — [and] final dissolution [the liberation or death (muktiṁ mṛtyuṁ vā)56]; rājarṣeḥ — of the royal sage; parīkṣitaḥ — Parīkṣit; ca — and; saṁsthām — [about] the passing [the great departure (mahā-prasthānam)57]; pāṇḍu-putrāṇām — of the sons of Pāṇḍu; udayam — [topics that] give rise to [or that are intimately connected with (anuprasaktir asmiṁs tad-vakṣye)58]; kṛṣṇa-kathā — the narrations of Śrī Kṛṣṇa [because the essential import of Śrīmad Bhāgavata is exclusively in Kṛṣṇa-kathā (śrī bhāgavatasya tatraiva tātparyāt)59].
Translation
Now I shall speak to you about the birth, actions, and final dissolution of the royal sage Parīkṣit and about the passing of Pāṇḍu’s sons— topics that give rise to the narrations of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
