दिग्देशकालाव्युत्पन्नो बालकः पञ्चहायनः ॥ ८ ॥
dig-deśa-kālāvyutpanno bālakaḥ pañca-hāyanaḥ
Synonyms
bālakaḥ — [being] a boy; pañca-hāyanaḥ — [of] five years [pañca-varṣaḥ30]; ca — and; avyutpannaḥ — having no experience [anabhijñaḥ]; dik-deśa-kāla — [of] directions, places, and time; aham — I; tad-apekṣayā — out of consideration for her [while maintaining regard for my mother, who was bound by affection to me, I waited, questioning, “When will this dependence come to an end?” (tasyā mātuḥ snehānubandhasyāpekṣayā kadā viramed iti pratīkṣayā)]; ūṣivān — lived [vāsaṁ kṛtavān]; tat — in that [tasmin]; brahma-kule — family of brāhmaṇas [where my mother was engaged in service (mātṛ-sevita-brāhmaṇānāṁ gṛhe)31].
Translation
Being a five-year-old boy and having no experience of directions, places, and time, I, out of consideration for her, lived in that family of brāhmaṇas [where my mother was engaged in service].
