मूर्च्छयित्वा हरिकथां गायमानश्चराम्यहम् ॥ ३३ ॥
mūrcchayitvā hari-kathāṁ gāyamānaś carāmy aham
Synonyms
aham — I; carāmi — wander all over; gāyamānaḥ — singing; hari-kathām — the narrations of Bhagavān Hari [Śrī Kṛṣṇa]; mūrcchayitvā — while playing [with a melody modulated by the regulated rise and fall of the notes of the musical scale (mūrcchanālāpavatīṁ kṛtvā)158]; imām — this; vīṇām — vīṇā, a stringed musical instrument; deva-dattām — which was given to me by the effulgent Lord (Deva) [given by Īśvara (devena īśvarena dattām); meaning Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself, since it is well known from the upari-bhāga of the Liṅga Purāṇa that Nārada received the vīṇā directly from Him (devaḥ śrī kṛṣṇa eva, liṅga-purāṇe upari-bhāge tenaiva svayaṁ tasya vīṇāgrāhanaṁ prasiddham)159]; vibhūṣitām — [and] which is adorned; svara-brahma — [with] the musical notes that embody Brahman in the form of sound [referring to the notes of the musical scale, which are seven in number—namely, niṣāda, ṛṣabha, gāndhāra, ṣaḍja, madhyama, dhaivata, and pañcama—these notes are indeed Brahman because they disclose Brahman (ta eva brahma brahmābhivyañjakatvāt), meaning that they are self-existent (svataḥ-siddha); their being of the nature of Brahman indicates that when these notes are sounded on the vīṇā, they have the power to immediately reveal Śrī Kṛṣṇa (svarāṇāṁ brahmatvam atra tasyāṁ vīṇāyāṁ vinyastānāṁ teṣāṁ sahasā śrī kṛṣṇa-sphorakatā-śakteḥ)160].
Translation
I wander all over singing the narrations of Bhagavān Hari [Śrī Kṛṣṇa] while playing this vīṇā, which was given to me by the effulgent Lord (Deva) and which is adorned with the seven musical notes that embody Brahman in the form of sound.
