आरब्धकर्मनिर्वाणो न्यपतत्पाञ्चभौतिकः ॥ २९ ॥
ārabdha-karma-nirvāṇo nyapatat pāñca-bhautikaḥ
Synonyms
mayi — when I; prayujyamāne — was endowed with [brought into union with by Bhagavān Himself (bhagavataiva nīyamāne sati)140]; tām — that; tanum — body [the previously specified body that was promised by Bhagavān in verse 24 (pūrvoktāṁ hitvāvadyam imaṁ lokaṁ gantā maj-janatām asīti bhagavatā pratiśrutām)141]; śuddhām — constituted of unalloyed being [(śuddha-sattva-mayī);142 devoid of contact with matter (prakṛti-sparśa-śūnyām)143]; bhāgavatīm — [and] of the essential nature of an associate of Bhagavān [(bhagavat-pārṣada-rūpām);144 being an integrated portion of the effulgence of Bhagavān’s own body (bhagavad-aṅga-jyotir-aṁśa-rūpām)145]; ārabdha-karma — the matured results of my previous actions; nirvāṇaḥ — were exhausted [samāptam]; pāñca-bhautikaḥ — [and] my phenomenal body constituted of the five material elements; nyapatat — fell off [by this, the destruction of the priorly existent subtle body is also implied (prāktana-liṅga-śarīra-bhaṅgo’pi lakṣitaḥ)146]; [this indicates that the bodies of Bhagavān’s associates do not result from previously performed karma, that they are eternal, and that they are constituted of unalloyed being (anena pārṣada-tanūnām akarmārabdhatvaṁ nityatvaṁ śuddhatvañ ca sūcitaṁ bhavati)].
Translation
When I was endowed with that body of an associate of Bhagavān, constituted of unalloyed being, the matured results of my previous actions were exhausted and my phenomenal body constituted of the five material elements fell off.
