गां पर्यटंस्तुष्टमना गतस्पृहः कालं प्रतीक्षन्विमदो विमत्सरः ॥ २७ ॥
paṭhan guhyāni bhadrāṇi kṛtāni ca smaran
gāṁ paryaṭaṁs tuṣṭa-manā gata-spṛhaḥ
kālaṁ pratīkṣan vimado vimatsaraḥ
Synonyms
gata-spṛhaḥ — [being] bereft of all cravings [spṛhāntara-śūnyaś ca san122]; [and being already beforehand (pūrvata eva tu)]; vimadaḥ — prideless [free from the madness of bodily identification (vigataḥ mado deha-pāravaśya-rūpo yasya saḥ)123]; vimatsaraḥ — [and] free from envy [toward other living beings (vigato matsaro bhūta-viṣayakaḥ)124]; [I (aham)125]; paryaṭan — roamed about; gām — the earth [pṛthivīm126]; tuṣṭa-manāḥ — contented at heart; paṭhan — uttering [ceaselessly (anavarataṁ gṛṇan)127]; nāmāni — the names; anantasya — of the unlimited One [Bhagavān]; hata-trapaḥ — having cast aside all reservation [tyakta-lajjaḥ san128]; ca — and; smaran — remembering; guhyāni — [His] mysterious [gopyāni]; bhadrāṇi — [and] auspicious [most excellent (sarvottamāni)]; kṛtāni — deeds [(caritāni);129 His līlās with His beloveds and other associates that are filled with the fundamentals of prema (preyasy ādibhiḥ saha prema-paripāṭīmaya līlāḥ), yet in accordance with my eligibility, only remembering them and not disclosing them openly (tāni tu yathādhikāraṁ smaran eva na tu prakāśayan)]; kālam pratīkṣan — while awaiting the moment [of my death and ascension, questioning, “When will the moment arrive when I will attain to His servitorship?” (sa kālo me kadā bhaviṣyati yatra tat-pārṣadatāṁ yāsyāmīti), and in this manner, anticipating the moment when I would become an associate of Bhagavān (bhagavat-pārṣado bhaviṣyāmi);130 implying that I existed awaiting only the moment of the dawning of His mercy (kevalaṁ kālaṁ tat-kṛpāvasaraṁ pratīkṣamāṇo’haṁ babhūveti śeṣaḥ)].
Translation
Bereft of all cravings, prideless, and free from envy, I roamed about the earth contented at heart, uttering the names of the unlimited One [Bhagavān] without reservation and remembering His mysterious and auspicious deeds, while awaiting the moment [of my death and ascension].
