SB 1.6.22

हन्तास्मिञ्जन्मनि भवान्मा मां द्रष्टुमिहार्हति ।
अविपक्वकषायाणां दुर्दर्शोऽहं कुयोगिनाम् ॥ २२ ॥
hantāsmiñ janmani bhavān mā māṁ draṣṭum ihārhati
avipakva-kaṣāyāṇāṁ durdarśo’haṁ kuyoginām

Synonyms

hanta — alas [exclaimed out of compassion (sānukampa-sambodhane)79]; [dear boy (tāta)80]; bhavān — you; mā arhati — will not be able [na arhati]; draṣṭum — to see; mām — Me; iha — here [in this world (bhū-loke)81]; asmin — in this; janmani — life [in the body of a practitioner (sādhaka-dehe)82]; [because (yataḥ)]; aham — I; durdarśaḥ — [am] difficult to be seen [imperceptible (adṛśyaḥ)83]; kuyoginām — for immature yogīs [those who have not attained the completion stage (aniṣpanna-yoginām)]; kaṣāyāṇām — whose impurities [such as desire and so on (malāḥ kāmādayaḥ); meaning the obstacles to seeing Bhagavān, in the form of attachment to sense objects, greed, and so on (darśana-pratibandako viṣaya-rāga-lobhādi-rūpo yeṣāṁ teṣām); in Nārada’s case, the word kaṣāya refers to his sāttvika predilection for living in the forest (atra sāttviko vana-vāsādy āgrahaḥ)84]; avipakva — [are] unburnt [(adagdhāḥ); or not yet exterminated (avinaṣṭaḥ)85]; [yet the vision of Me was indeed disclosed to you, and hence you are not an immature yogī (tubhyaṁ tu darśanaṁ dattam eveti tvaṁ tu kuyogī na bhavasīti bhāvaḥ)86]; [this was spoken by Bhagavān simply to increase Nārada’s longing (utkaṇṭhā-vardhanārthañ cedam)87].

Translation

[Śrī Bhagavān said:] Alas, dear boy, you will not be able to see Me here in this life, because I am imperceptible to immature yogīs whose impurities are unburnt.
