गम्भीरश्लक्ष्णया वाचा शुचः प्रशमयन्निव ॥ २१ ॥
gambhīra-ślakṣṇayā vācā śucaḥ praśamayann iva
Synonyms
yatantam — while I was striving [prayatnaṁ kurvantam75]; evam — in this manner [to obtain the vision of Bhagavān (bhagavad-darśanārtham)]; vijane — in that solitary place [ekānte]; agocaraḥ — [Bhagavān] who is beyond the range; girām — of speech [who cannot be reduced to an object of speech (vacanasya’viṣayībhūtaḥ)76]; āha — spoke; mām — to me [enabled me to experience the mellifluous sound of His words through my two ears (svīya-vacana-sausvaryaṁ śravaṇābhyāṁ mām anubhāvayāmāsa)77]; gambhīra — [with] deep [melodious (susvarayā)]; ślakṣṇayā — [and] soothing [madhurayā]; vācā — words; praśamayan iva — as if to quell [durī-kurvan]; [my (mama)]; śucaḥ — grief [the agony of not seeing Him (tad-adarśanodbhuta duḥkha-śokān)78].
Translation
While I was striving in this manner in that solitary place, Bhagavān, who is beyond the range of speech, spoke to me with deep and soothing words, as if to quell my grief.
