आत्मनात्मानमात्मस्थं यथाश्रुतमचिन्तयम् ॥ १६ ॥
ātmanātmānam ātmasthaṁ yathā-śrutam acintayam
Synonyms
tasmin — in that; araṇye — forest; nirmanuje — bereft of people [manuṣya-sañcāra-rahite47]; āśritaḥ — while sheltered [seated (upaviṣṭaḥ)48]; upasthe — at the foot [mūle]; pippala — [of] a Pippala tree; acintayam — I meditated [dhyātavān asmi49]; yathā-śrutam — as previously instructed [without transgressing the meditation procedure that was instructed to me involving the use of a mantra (mantropadiṣṭa-dhyānam anatikramya acintayam)50]; ātmanā — via the intuitive-intellective faculty [buddhyā]; ātmānam — on the Supreme Self [paramātmānam]; ātma-stham — immanently present in my own heart [(hṛdi-stham); meaning that He had taken up uninterrupted residence in my heart due to prema’s appearance there (utpanna-prematvān manasy avichedenaiva kṛta-vāsam)51].
Translation
In that forest bereft of people, while seated at the foot of a Pippala tree, I meditated as previously instructed via the intuitive-intellective faculty on the Supreme Self, immanently present in my own heart.
