ययाहमेतत्सदसत्स्वमायया पश्ये मयि ब्रह्मणि कल्पितं परे ॥ २७ ॥
priyaśravasy askhalitā matir mama
yayāham etat sad-asat sva-māyayā
paśye mayi brahmaṇi kalpitaṁ pare
Synonyms
mahā-mate — O great sage; tadā — at that time; labdha-ruceḥ — on the awakening of attraction; tasmin — for Him [Bhagavān (bhagavati)109]; priya-śravasi — [Śrī Kṛṣṇa] whose stories are so delightful to hear; askhalitā — unobstructed [apratihatā]; matiḥ — discriminating wisdom; mama [abhavat] — [appeared] to me; yayā — by that [wisdom (matyā)]; aham — I; paśye — was able to see [or to immediately recognize (jñātavān asmi);110 in that very moment (tat-kṣaṇam eva paśyāmi)]; etat — this; sat-asat — individuated gross and subtle body [(sthūlaṁ sūkṣmañ ca etac charīram); or this world constituted of individual and collective being (sad-asad-vyaṣṭi-samaṣṭy ātmakaṁ jagat);111 or this existent world of cause and effect (vartamānam etat sad-asat-kārya-kāraṇātmakaṁ jagat)112]; kalpitam — as superimposed [(āropitam);113 and not ontologically existent (na tu vastuto’stīti)]; sva-māyayā — by His deluding potency [sva-avidyayā]; mayi — on me [in the form of a jīva (jīva-rūpe)114]; pare — who am transcendental to phenomenality [(prapañcātīte); or distinct from the gross and subtle bodies (deha-dvaya-vyatirikte)115]; brahmaṇi — [and] of the conscious nature of Brahman [(brahma-rūpe); here identified directly as Brahman because of being an integrated part of Brahman (brahmāṁśatvāt) on the basis of the nondistinction that holds between the part and the whole (aṁśāṁśinor abhedāt)116].
Translation
O great sage, at that time, on the awakening of attraction for Śrī Kṛṣṇa, whose stories are so delightful to hear, unobstructed discriminating wisdom appeared to me. By that wisdom, I was able to see [in that very moment] this individuated gross and subtle body as superimposed by His deluding potency on me, who am transcendental to phenomenality and of the conscious nature of Brahman.
