SB 1.4.23

त एत ऋषयो वेदं स्वं स्वं व्यस्यन्ननेकधा ।
शिष्यैः प्रशिष्यैस्तच्छिष्यैर्वेदास्ते शाखिनोऽभवन् ॥ २३ ॥
ta eta ṛṣayo vedaṁ svaṁ svaṁ vyasyann anekadhā
śiṣyaiḥ praśiṣyais tac-chiṣyair vedās te śākhino’bhavan

Synonyms

te ete — all these; ṛṣayaḥ — seers; vyasyan — divided [vibhaktavantaḥ93]; svam svam vedam — their respective Vedas; anekadhā — exponentially; [and thus (tataḥ)94]; te — these; vedāḥ — Vedas; abhavan — became; śākhinaḥ — many-branched [bahu-śākhāvantaḥ95]; śiṣyaiḥ — through their disciples; praśiṣyaiḥ — their grand-disciples; tat-śiṣyaiḥ — [and] their ongoing disciplic lines.

Translation

All these ṛṣis divided their respective Vedas exponentially, and thus these Vedas became many-branched through their disciples, their grand-disciples, and their ongoing disciplic lines.
