वैशम्पायन एवैको निष्णातो यजुषामुत ॥ २१ ॥
vaiśampāyana evaiko niṣṇāto yajuṣām uta
Synonyms
tatra — in the matter of these five Vedas [teṣāṁ vedānāṁ madhye85]; pailaḥ — Paila Ṛṣi; [became (abhūt)86]; ṛg-veda-dharaḥ — the receptacle and support of the Ṛg Veda; kaviḥ — the poetically adept and learned [sūkṣma-jñānī]; jaiminiḥ — Jaimini Ṛṣi; [became (abhūt)]; sāma-gaḥ — a singer of the Sāma Veda; uta — and [api87]; vaiśampāyanaḥ — Vaiśampāyana Ṛṣi; ekaḥ eva88 — alone; [became (abhūt)]; niṣṇātaḥ — the skilled propounder [(pāraṅgataḥ);89 (pravartakatayā)]; yajuṣām — of the Yajur Veda.
Translation
In the matter of these [five Vedas], Paila Ṛṣi became the receptacle and support of the Ṛg Veda, the poetically adept and learned Jaimini Ṛṣi became a singer of the Sāma Veda, and Vaiśampāyana Ṛṣi alone became the skilled propounder of the Yajur Veda.
