स तु संश्रावयामासमहाराजं परीक्षितम् ।
प्रायोपविष्टं गङ्गायां परीतं परमर्षिभिः ॥ ४२ ॥
sa tu saṁśrāvayāmāsa mahārājaṁ parīkṣitam
prāyopaviṣṭaṁ gaṅgāyāṁ parītaṁ paramarṣibhiḥ

Synonyms

saḥ — he [Śuka]; tu — in turn [after studying this Purāṇa (adhītaitat purā-ṇaḥ)197]; saṁśrāvayāmāsa — disclosed it; mahā-rājam — to the great king; parīkṣitam — Parīkṣit; prāya-upaviṣṭam — who sat with a vow to fast until death [prāyeṇa mṛtyu-paryantānaśanena upaviṣṭam198]; gaṅgāyām — on the bank of the Gaṅgā; parītam — surrounded [pariveṣṭitam199]; parama-ṛṣibhiḥ — by the best of seers.

Translation

Śuka, in turn, disclosed this Purāṇa to the great king, Parīkṣit, who sat with a vow to fast until death on the bank of the Gaṅgā, surrounded by the best of sages.
