कलौ नष्टदृशामेष पुराणार्कोऽधुनोदितः ॥ ४३ ॥
kalau naṣṭa-dṛśām eṣa purāṇārko’dhunoditaḥ
Synonyms
[Sūta now answers the sixth question of the sages as to where dharma has sought refuge after Kṛṣṇa’s withdrawal from the earth (SB 1.1.23).200]; upagate — upon the departure; kṛṣṇe — [of] Śrī Kṛṣṇa; sva-dhāma — to His own abode [(sva-lokam);201 the locus of His eternal divine play (nitya-līlā-sthānam)202]; saha — accompanied by; dharma — the supreme mystical path [of love for Bhagavān (bhagavad-dharmaḥ)]; jñāna — transcendental knowledge [of Bhagavān (bhagavat-jñāna)]; ādibhiḥ — and other related majesties [including His six intrinsic divine opulences (ṣaḍbhir aiśvaryaiḥ)203]; eṣaḥ — this; purāṇa-arkaḥ — self-effulgent Sun, in the form of the Bhāgavata Purāṇa [which is fully competent to bestow vision (dṛṣṭi-pradāna-kṣama eva);204 or which discloses dharma by providing insight (prajñā-pravarttanena dharmādi-prakāśakaḥ)205]; uditaḥ — has arisen [appeared as Kṛṣṇa’s direct representative (tat-pratinidhi-rūpeṇāvirbabhūva) because it reveals His dharma and jñāna (tādṛśa-dharma-jñānā-prakāśanāt)]; adhunā — just now; naṣṭa-dṛśām — for those bereft of sight [destitute of insight (naṣṭa-prajñānāṁ janānām);206 or devoid of discernment regarding the dharma and jñāna that concerns Bhagavān (tādṛśa-dharma-jñānā-viveka-rahitānāṁ kṛte)]; kalau — in the age of Kali.
Translation
Upon Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s departure to His own abode, accompanied by bhagavad-dharma, bhagavat-jñāna, and other related majesties [including His six intrinsic divine opulences], this self-effulgent Sun in the form of the Bhāgavata Purāṇa has now arisen for those who are bereft of sight in the age of Kali.
