अपाययत्सुरानन्यान्मोहिन्या मोहयन्स्त्रिया ॥ १७ ॥
apāyayat surān anyān mohinyā mohayan striyā
Synonyms
dvādaśamam — in the twelfth advent [avatāram80]; [the Puruṣa assumed (bibhrat)81]; dhānvantaram — the form of Dhanvantari [(dhanvantari-rūpam);82 bearing a pot of immortal nectar (sudhā-kalasa-ānayanam)83]; eva ca — and then at once; trayodaśamam — in the thirteenth advent [avatāra]; [having assumed (bibhrat)84]; mohinyā striyā — the form of an enchantingly beautiful woman, as Mohinī [(striyā rūpeṇa); fully endowed with feminine alluring potency (mohaka-śaktimatyā striyā)85]; surān apāyayat — He contrived to enable the gods to drink [the immortal nectar (sudhām)86]; mohayan — [while] bewildering; anyān — the others [the anti-gods (asurān)].
Translation
In the twelfth avatāra, the Puruṣa assumed the form of Dhanvantari [bearing a pot of immortal nectar]. Then at once, in the thirteenth avatāra, having assumed the form of an enchantingly beautiful woman, as Mohinī, He contrived to enable the suras to drink the immortal nectar, while bewildering the others [the asuras].
