SB 1.3.16

सुरासुराणामुदधिं मथ्नतां मन्दराचलम् ।
दध्रे कमठरूपेण पृष्ठ एकादशे विभुः ॥ १६ ॥
surāsurāṇām udadhiṁ mathnatāṁ mandarācalam
dadhre kamaṭha-rūpeṇa pṛṣṭha ekādaśe vibhuḥ

Synonyms

ekādaśe — in the eleventh advent [avatāre77]; vibhuḥ — the omnipresent and omnipotent Puruṣa [sarvathā-bhavana sarva-karaṇa-samartho bhagavān78]; rūpeṇa — by [assuming] the form; kamaṭha — of a divine tortoise [(kurmas tad-rūpeṇa); as Kūrmadeva]; dadhre — supported [dadhāra]; mandarācalam — Mount Mandara; pṛṣṭhe — on His back; sura — for the benefit of the gods; asurāṇām — [and] the anti-gods; mathnatām — who were engaged in churning; udadhim — the Ocean [of Milk to obtain immortal nectar (amṛtotpādanārtham iti śeṣaḥ)79].

Translation

In the eleventh avatāra, the omnipresent and omnipotent Puruṣa, assuming the form of a divine tortoise [Kūrmadeva], supported Mount Mandara on His back for the benefit of the suras and asuras, who were engaged in churning the Ocean of Milk [to obtain immortal nectar].
