छिन्दन्ति कोविदास्तस्य को न कुर्यात्कथारतिम् ॥ १५ ॥
chindanti kovidās tasya ko na kuryāt kathā-ratim
Synonyms
kovidāḥ — those whose discernment is awakened [vivekinaḥ58]; yuktāḥ — [and] who are self-controlled [saṁyata-cittāḥ]; chindanti — slit; nibandhanam — the binding; granthi — knot; karma — [of] conditional action [which binds the ego to a succession of bodies (nānā-deheṣv ahaṅkāraṁ nibadhnāti yat tat karma)]; asinā — with the sword [or the sacrificial knife (khaḍgaḥ tena)]; anudhyā — [of] constant meditation [(anudhyānam), or contemplation alone (cintā-mātram)]; yat — on Him [Bhagavān Hari]; kaḥ — who; na kuryāt — would not feel; ratim — attraction [rucim]; tasya — [for] His; kathā — narrations [for the narrations of He who is of the nature just described, the deliverer from the greatest of miseries (tasyaivam-bhūtasya parama-duḥkhād-uddhartaḥ kathāyām)].
Translation
Those whose discernment is awakened and who are self-controlled slit the binding knot of conditional action with the sword of constant meditation on Bhagavān Hari. Who would not feel attraction for His narrations?
