SB 1.19.8
प्रायेण तीर्थाभिगमापदेशैः स्वयं हि तीर्थानि पुनन्ति सन्तः ॥ ८ ॥
mahānubhāvā munayaḥ sa-śiṣyāḥ
prāyeṇa tīrthābhigamāpadeśaiḥ
svayaṁ hi tīrthāni punanti santaḥ
Synonyms
[at that time (tadā)70]; munayaḥ — many sages; mahā-anubhāvāḥ — of extraordinary spiritual power; punānāḥ — [who] purify [pavitrī-kurvantaḥ71]; bhuvanam — the entire world; upajagmuḥ — arrived [upāgatāḥ72]; tatra — there; [to see Parīkṣit and not for the purpose of bathing at a holy shrine (tad-darśanārthaṁ na tu tīrtha-snānārtham), since they were already perfected (kṛtārthatvāt); or to drink the immortal nectar of Śrīmad Bhāgavata, knowing the event that was about to take place by virtue of their omniscience (sarvajñatayā bhāvi vṛtāntaṁ jñātvā śrī-bhāgavatāmṛta-pānārtham)73]; sa-śiṣyāḥ — accompanied by their disciples; prāyeṇa — generally; apadeśaiḥ — on the plea [or pretext (vyājaiḥ)]; abhigama — [of] visiting; tīrtha — the sacred places of pilgrimage [tīrtha-yātrā]; santaḥ — the sages [sādhavaḥ74]; punanti — sanctify; tīrthāni — those holy places; svayam hi — merely by their presence.
Translation
At that time, many sages of extraordinary spiritual power, who purify the entire world, arrived there, accompanied by their disciples. Generally, on the plea of visiting the sacred places of pilgrimage, the sages sanctify those holy places merely by their presence.
