SB 1.19.9–10
पराशरो गाधिसुतोऽथ राम उतथ्य इन्द्रप्रमदेध्मवाहौ ॥ ९ ॥
मेधातिथिर्देवल आर्ष्टिषेणो भारद्वाजो गौतमः पिप्पलादः ।
मैत्रेय और्वः कवषः कुम्भयोनिर्द्वैपायनो भगवान्नारदश्च ॥ १० ॥
ariṣṭanemir bhṛgur aṅgirāś ca
parāśaro gādhi-suto’tha rāma
utathya indrapramadedhmavāhau
medhātithir devala ārṣṭiṣeṇo
bhāradvājo gautamaḥ pippalādaḥ
maitreya aurvaḥ kavaṣaḥ kumbhayonir
dvaipāyano bhagavān nāradaś ca
Synonyms
[“And who were the prominent sages who had gathered at that sacred place?” (ke caite munayaḥ). This is described in the following two and a half verses (ity atra darśayati atrir iti sārddha-dvayena).75]; atriḥ — Atri [who is mentioned first, being chief among the brāhmaṇas (brāhmaṇeṣu mukhya iti prathamam evātrir gaṇitaḥ)76]; vasiṣṭhaḥ — Vasiṣṭha; cyavanaḥ — Cyavana; śaradvān — Śaradvān [the father of Kṛpācārya (kṛpācārya-pitā)77]; ariṣṭanemiḥ — Ariṣṭanemi; bhṛguḥ — Bhṛgu; aṅgirāḥ ca — Aṅgirā; parāśarah — Parāśara; gādhi-sutaḥ — Gādhisuta [Viśvāmitra78]; atha — and [the sages mentioned up to this point propounded the path of jñāna (athety antāḥ jñāna-pratipādakāḥ)]; rāmaḥ — Paraśurāma [the sage by that name who appeared in the lineage of Bhṛgu (bhārgavaḥ)79]; utathyaḥ — Utathya; indrapramada-idhmavāhau — Indrapramada and Idhmavāhu; medhātithiḥ — Medhātithi; devalaḥ — Devala; ārṣṭiṣeṇaḥ — Ārṣṭiṣeṇa; bhāradvājaḥ — Bhāradvāja; gauta-maḥ — Gautama; pippalādaḥ — Pippalāda [the sages from Paraśurāma to Pippalāda propounded the path of dharma, or integral moral action (rāmādi pippalādāntāḥ dharma-pratipādakāḥ)]; maitreyaḥ — Maitreya; aurvaḥ — Aurva; kavaṣaḥ — Kavaṣa; kumbhayoniḥ — Kumbhayoni [Agastya80]; dvaipāyanaḥ — Dvaipāyana; ca — and; bhagavān — the illustrious; nāradaḥ — Nārada [the sages from Maitreya to Nārada propounded the path of bhakti (maitreyādi nāradāntā bhakti-pratipādakāḥ)].
Translation
The prominent sages who had gathered at that sacred place included Atri, Vasiṣṭha, Cyavana, Śaradvān, Ariṣṭanemi, Bhṛgu, Aṅgirā, Parāśara, Gādhisuta [Viśvāmitra], Paraśurāma, Utathya, Indrapramada, Idhmavāhu, Medhātithi, Devala, Ārṣṭiṣeṇa, Bhāradvāja, Gautama, Pippalāda, Maitreya, Aurva, Kavaṣa, Kumbhayoni [Agastya], Dvaipāyana, and the illustrious Nārada.
