दधौ मुकुन्दाङ्घ्रिमनन्यभावो मुनिव्रतो मुक्तसमस्तसङ्गः ॥ ७ ॥
prāyopaveśaṁ prati viṣṇu-padyām
dadhau mukundāṅghrim ananya-bhāvo
muni-vrato mukta-samasta-saṅgaḥ
Synonyms
vyavacchidya — having resolved [(niścitya);63 or firmly fixed his intention (viniścitya saṅkalpān)64]; iti — in this manner [evam]; prāya-upāveśam prati — to sit with a vow to fast until death [the word prati here means “making this as his aim” (prati lakṣīkṛtyety arthaḥ)65]; viṣṇu-padyām — on the bank of the Gaṅgā [gaṅgāyām]; saḥ — he; pāṇḍaveyaḥ — Parīkṣit; mukta — [who was] liberated; samasta — [from] all; saṅgaḥ — worldly attachments [to the body and its relations (deha-tad-anubandhyādiṣu)66]; muni-vrataḥ — [who had thus] embraced the demeanor of a sage [meaning that he had become established in perfect serenity (upaśāntaḥ)67]; ananya-bhāvaḥ — [and was consequently] of single-minded intent [in whom no other intent or disposition was found to exist (nāsty anyasmin bhāvo yasya saḥ); or whose devotional affect was exclusively intent upon Śrī Kṛṣṇa (ananyaḥ kṛṣṇaika-viṣayaḥ bhāvo bhaktir yasya)68]; dadhau — focused [his attention or meditated (dhyātavān)69]; mukunda-aṅghrim — on the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
Translation
Having resolved in this manner to sit with a vow to fast until death on the bank of the Gaṅgā, Parīkṣit, who was liberated from all worldly attachments, who had thus embraced the demeanor of a sage, and was consequently of single-minded intent, focused his attention on the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
