SB 1.19.4
स साधु मेने न चिरेण तक्षका नलं प्रसक्तस्य विरक्तिकारणम् ॥ ४ ॥
muneḥ sutokto nirṛtis takṣakākhyaḥ
sa sādhu mene na cireṇa takṣakā-
nalaṁ prasaktasya virakti-kāraṇam
Synonyms
atha — then [anantaram eva34]; cintayan — while reflecting; ittham — in this manner; saḥ — he [the king (rājā)35]; aśṛṇot — heard [from a disciple of Śamīka who was sent by the latter (śamīka-preṣitāt śiṣyāt)36]; yathā — how [yena prakāreṇa]; nirṛtiḥ — [his] death [mṛtyuḥ]; takṣaka-ākhyaḥ — designated as Takṣaka; [would occur in seven days’ time (saptame’hani bhaviṣyati)37]; suta-uktaḥ — [due to the curse] delivered by the son [due to the pronouncement in the form of a curse enunciated by the son (sutenoktaḥ śāpātmakoktyā pracoditaḥ)]; muneḥ — of the sage; [immediately thereupon (tataḥ)]; saḥ — he [the king (rājā)]; mene — considered [or accepted (svīkṛtavān)38]; takṣaka-analam — the fire represented by Takṣaka [takṣaka-rūpam analam]; sādhu — [as] propitious; [since (yataḥ)39]; na cireṇa — [it would] quickly [śīghram eva40]; [become (abhūt)41]; kāraṇam — the cause [hetu-garbham]; virakti — [of] dispassion; prasaktasya — for one like him who was attached to the objects of worldly experience [(viṣayāsaktasya svasya); in the form of his kingdom and so on (rājyādiṣu)42].
Translation
Then, while reflecting in this manner, the king heard how his death—designated as Takṣaka—would occur in seven days’ time due to the curse delivered by the son of the sage. Immediately thereupon, the king considered the fire represented by Takṣaka as propitious, since it would quickly become the cause of dispassion for one like him who was attached to the objects of worldly experience.
