दहत्वभद्रस्य पुनर्न मेऽभूत्पापीयसी धीर्द्विजदेवगोभ्यः ॥ ३ ॥
prakopita-brahma-kulānalo me
dahatv abhadrasya punar na me’bhūt
pāpīyasī dhīr dvija-deva-gobhyaḥ
Synonyms
analaḥ — [let] the fire [of chastisement (nigrahātmako’nalo’gniḥ)25]; prakopita — [of] the infuriated [of those impelled to anger (kopaṁ prāpitam); or enraged by me (mayaiva prajvālitaḥ)26]; brahma-kula — brāhmaṇa lineage [(brāhmaṇānāṁ kulam);27 as the effective agent of the conflagration (tat-kartṛka)]; dahatu — incinerate [or forcibly take away as if by incinerating (dagdha-vad apayātu)28]; adya eva — this very day; rājyam — the kingdom; balam — military power [sainyam]; ṛddha-kośam — [and] abundant treasury [prabhūta-dhana-kośam]; me — belonging to me [(mama); over which I had claimed proprietorship (madīyatvenābhimatam)29]; [so that (yathā)]; pāpīyasī — a sinful; dhīḥ — proclivity [(buddhiḥ); to inflict harm (pīḍayituṁ sā dhīḥ)30]; dvija — [toward] the brāhmaṇas; deva — the devas; gobhyaḥ — [and] the cows; punaḥ na abhūt — may never again overtake [or occur to (punar na bhavet)31]; me — me [mama]; abhadrasya — a most unfortunate [(bhūyaḥ abhadrasya);32 and vile creature (duṣṭasya)33].
Translation
Let the fire of the infuriated brāhmaṇa lineage incinerate this very day the kingdom, military power, and abundant treasury belonging to me, so that a sinful proclivity toward the brāhmaṇas, the devas, and the cows may never again overtake me, a most unfortunate and vile creature.
