SB 1.19.32
अहो अद्य वयं ब्रह्मन्सत्सेव्याः क्षत्रबन्धवः ।
कृपयातिथिरूपेण भवद्भिस्तीर्थकाः कृताः ॥ ३२ ॥
aho adya vayaṁ brahman sat-sevyāḥ kṣatra-bandhavaḥ
kṛpayātithi-rūpeṇa bhavadbhis tīrthakāḥ kṛtāḥ
Synonyms
parīkṣit — Parīkṣit; uvāca — said; brahman — O brāhmaṇa [(he brahman);243 O you who are established in the immediate intuition of Brahman (brahma-jñānin)244]; aho — how blessed are we! [(aho bhāgyam);245 here expressing his feeling of utter fulfillment at Śrī Śuka’s arrival (śrī śuka samāgamenātmanaḥ kṛtārthatām āviṣkaroti aho iti)246]; [since (yataḥ)247]; adya — today; kṛpayā — by the grace [bestowed upon us]; bhavadbhiḥ — by you; atithi-rūpeṇa — [who have appeared to us] in the form of a guest [or on the pretext of being a guest (atithi-vyājena)]; vayam — we; kṣatra-bandhavaḥ [api] — [although] belonging to the fallen martial order; tīrthakāḥ kṛtāḥ — have been made eligible [(yogyāḥ kṛtāḥ);248 or rendered appropriately pure (pavitrī-kṛtāḥ)]; sat-sevyāḥ — to be favored by saints [(satāṁ sevyā jātāḥ);249 (sadbhiḥ sevyā abhūma);250 to be the object of the grace of saints (satāṁ sevyā anugrāhyā abhūma); or to be favorably regarded by those firmly established in saintly conduct (satāṁ sadācārāṇāṁ sevyā ādara-yogyāḥ);251 or to cherish the great saints as our very object of service (santo mahāntaḥ sevyā yeṣāṁ te), meaning, that although we are fallen kṣatriyas, we have become eligible for the service of great saints (kṣatra-bandhavo’pi mahat-sevāyām adhikāriṇo’bhūmety arthaḥ)252].
Translation
Parīkṣit said: O brāhmaṇa, how blessed are we! Since today, by the grace bestowed upon us by you, who have appeared to us in the form of a guest, we, although belonging to the fallen martial order, have been made eligible to be favored by saints [or to cherish the great saints as our very object of service].
