किं पुनर्दर्शनस्पर्श पादशौचासनादिभिः ॥ ३३ ॥
kiṁ punar darśana-sparśa-pāda-śaucāsanādibhiḥ
Synonyms
[“How is it that we have become appropriately pure (lit., ‘an abode of sanctity,’ tīrtha-bhūtatā) simply by your coming to us in the form of a guest?” (katham atithi-rūpeṇāsmad-āgamana-rūpeṇa vas tīrtha-bhūtatā). This is answered in the following verse by the application of a fortiori reasoning, the logic of “How much more?” (ity atra tat-kaimutya-nyāyena darśayati).253]; saṁsmaraṇāt [eva] — simply by the remembrance; yeṣām — of whom [i.e., of you (bhavatām)]; puṁsām — people’s; gṛhāḥ — homes; śuddhyanti vai — are indeed purified; sadyaḥ — immediately [sadya eva254]; kim punaḥ [vaktavyam] — what more need be said; [of the purification they obtain (śuddhyanti)]; darśana — by seeing [you (bhavatām)]; sparśa — touching [you]; pāda-śauca — washing [your] feet; āsana-ādibhiḥ — offering [you] a seat, or other such forms of direct service.
Translation
Simply by the remembrance of you, people’s homes are indeed purified immediately. What more need be said of the purification they obtain by seeing you, touching you, washing your feet, offering you a seat, or other such forms of direct service?
