लोकं परं विरजस्कं विशोकं यास्यत्ययं भागवतप्रधानः ॥ २१ ॥
kalevaraṁ yāvad asau vihāya
lokaṁ paraṁ virajaskaṁ viśokaṁ
yāsyaty ayaṁ bhāgavata-pradhānaḥ
Synonyms
[Having heard the king’s intention, the sages, consulting among themselves, inform the king of their own intention in the following verse (rājño’adhyavasāyaṁ śrutvā sveṣām apy adhyavasāyaṁ rājānaṁ śrāvayantaḥ parasparaṁ mantrayante sarve iti).155]; atha — hereafter [from today (adya)156]; sarve vayam — all of us; āsmahe — will remain [āsīmahi157]; iha — here [by the king’s side (rājñaḥ sannidhāv eva)]; tāvat — for the entire duration; yāvat — until; asau — he [the king (rājā)]; ayam — this; pradhānaḥ — foremost [śreṣṭhaḥ158]; bhāgavata — devotee of Bhagavān [who is thus by all means worthy of service (nitarāṁ sevyā)]; vihāya — gives up; kalevaram — [his] body; yāsyati — [and] attains; param — the transcendental [(aprākṛtam), categorically distinct from inert or worldly phenomena (prākṛta-vibhūti-bhinnam);159 beyond the influence of the material guṇas (tri-guṇātītam) or complete (pūrṇaṁ vā);160 or the supreme (śreṣṭham)161]; lokam — abode; virajaskam — [which is] free from all deluding influence [(nirmāyam);162 being constituted of unalloyed being (śuddha-sattvamaya-vilokam)]; viśokam — [and] bereft of sorrow [bereft of the threefold miseries of material existence, beginning with those pertaining to one’s own psychophysical constitution (ādhyātmikādi tāpa-traya-rahitam)163].
Translation
Hereafter, all of us will remain here for the entire duration until the king—this foremost devotee of Bhagavān—gives up his body and attains the transcendental abode, which is free from all deluding influence and bereft of sorrow.
