दङ्क्ष्यति स्म कुलाङ्गारं चोदितो मे ततद्रुहम् ॥ ३७ ॥
daṅkṣyati sma kulāṅgāraṁ codito me tata-druham
Synonyms
saptame — on the seventh; ahani — day [from today (itaḥ)302]; takṣakaḥ — the snake Takṣaka; coditaḥ — impelled [preritaḥ303]; me — by me [mayā304]; daṅkṣyati sma — will assuredly bite [bhakṣayiṣyati305]; [the king named Parīkṣit (parīkṣitaṁ nāma rājānam)306]; kula-aṅgāram — the disgrace of his dynasty [comparable to a piece of charcoal that stains the dynasty (kulasyāṅgāra-tulyām);307 or the destroyer of his dynasty (kula-nāśakam)]; laṅghita — [who] has transgressed [ullaṅghita]; maryādam — the bounds of morality; iti — in this manner [by thus placing a dead snake on the shoulders of a meditating sage (evaṁ sarpa-nikṣepeṇa)308]; [thereby (yena)]; [me mama309] tata-druham — [becoming] an offender to my father [tatas tātaḥ pitā tasyāpakāriṇam].
Translation
On the seventh day from today, the snake Takṣaka, impelled by me, will assuredly bite the king named Parīkṣit, the disgrace of his dynasty, who has transgressed the bounds of morality in this manner, thereby becoming an offender to my father.
