राज्ञाघं प्रापितं तातं श्रुत्वा तत्रेदमब्रवीत् ॥ ३२ ॥
rājñāghaṁ prāpitaṁ tātaṁ śrutvā tatredam abravīt
Synonyms
[at that time (tadā)272]; putraḥ — the son [Śṛṅgī by name (śṛṅgī-nāma)]; tasya — of the sage [Śamīka (śamīkasya brahmarṣeḥ)]; ati-tejasvī — [who was] an exceptionally powerful [one endowed with the yogic power born of austerity (tapo-bala-sampannaḥ);273 or one invested with brahminical power (brāhma-teja-sampannaḥ);274 indicating that he had the power to inflict a curse (śāpa-dāna-sāmarthyam asyāstīti darśitam)275]; bālakaḥ — boy [by age alone and not by yogic competence (vayasaiva na tu sāmarthyena)]; viharan — was playing [krīḍan]; arbhakaiḥ — with other boys [bālaiḥ saha]; śrutvā — [when] he heard; agham — [of] the offense [aparādham276]; prāpitam — perpetrated; tātam — against his father [pitaram277]; rājñā — by the king; abravīt — he spoke; idam — as follows [vakṣyamānam]; tatra — in their midst [arbhakaṁ madhye278].
Translation
At that time, the son of the sage, who was an exceptionally powerful boy, was playing with other boys. When he heard of the offense perpetrated against his father by the king, he spoke as follows in their midst.
