SB 1.18.31

एष किं निभृताशेष करणो मीलितेक्षणः ।
मृषासमाधिराहोस्वित्किं नु स्यात्क्षत्रबन्धुभिः ॥ ३१ ॥
eṣa kiṁ nibhṛtāśeṣa-karaṇo mīlitekṣaṇaḥ
mṛṣā-samādhir āhosvit kiṁ nu syāt kṣatra-bandhubhiḥ

Synonyms

[The king conjectured in the following manner (jijñasayeti).262]; kim — had; eṣaḥ — this [sage (muniḥ)263]; nibhṛta-aśeṣa-karaṇaḥ — truly withdrawn all his senses [pratyāhṛta sarvendriyaḥ san]; [as a consequence of which (yena)264]; [he sat (sthitaḥ)]; īkṣaṇaḥ — [with] his eyes [locane265]; mīlita — sealed shut [mudrita266]; [by which circumstance it can be understood that he was authentically established in the state of transcognitive absorption (yena tathā-bhūtaḥ yathārtha-samādhi-niṣṭhaḥ)267]; āho svit — or [was]; samādhiḥ — his meditation; mṛṣā — merely feigned [mithyā-bhūtaḥ268]; [out of a feeling of disregard (avajñayā); thinking (iti buddhyā)269]; kim nu syāt — what could he possibly have to do [kim prayojanam vidyate270]; kṣatra-bandhubhiḥ — with worthless kṣatriyas [such as us (asmākam);271 who arrive in one moment and are gone in the next (āgatair gatair vā)].

Translation

[The king conjectured in the following manner:] Had this sage truly withdrawn all his senses as a consequence of which he sat with his eyes sealed shut [in the state of transcognitive absorption], or was his meditation merely feigned [out of a feeling of disregard], thinking what could he possibly have to do with worthless kṣatriyas [such as us]?
