विशुष्यत्तालुरुदकं तथाभूतमयाचत ॥ २७ ॥
viśuṣyat-tālur udakaṁ tathā-bhūtam ayācata
Synonyms
[Parīkṣit233]; tāluḥ — [whose] palate [jihvā-mūlam234]; viśuṣyat — was parched [with thirst (viśeṣeṇa śuṣyat);235 (nīrasam)236]; ayācata — requested [prārthitavān237]; udakam — water [jalam238]; [from the sage (munim)]; tathā-bhūtam — [who] was withdrawn into that meditative state [characterized by perfect tranquility and the other attributes previously described (pūrvokta-śāntādi-viśeṣaṇa-viśiṣṭam);239 meaning that the king requested water from him in spite of seeing him in that condition (dṛṣṭvā ca tathā-bhūtam api muniṁ rājā udakam ayācata)240]; [wearing or covered by (ācchannam)241]; rauraveṇa ajinena — a Ruru deerskin [the skin of a particular breed of deer that goes by the name Ruru (ruruḥ mṛga-viśeṣaḥ tasya carmaṇā)]; ca — and; ācchannam — covered [āvṛtam242]; viprakīrṇa-jaṭā — [with] disheveled matted hair [vikṣiptābhir-jaṭābhiḥ243].
Translation
Parīkṣit, whose palate was parched with thirst, requested water from the sage who was withdrawn into that meditative state, wearing a Ruru deerskin and covered with disheveled matted hair.
