तं जिघृक्षत्यधर्मोऽयमनृतेनैधितः कलिः ॥ २५ ॥
taṁ jighṛkṣaty adharmo’yam anṛtenaidhitaḥ kaliḥ
Synonyms
dharma — O Dharma; idānīm — at present [in this age of Kali (kalau)142]; te — you have [lit., “of you there is” (tava)143]; [avaśiṣṭhaḥ144] pādaḥ — [just the one remaining] leg [your fourth principle (caturthāṁśaḥ)]; satyam — [of] truth [which is stolen by falsehood (anṛtena hīyate)]; yataḥ — by which [satyāt]; [you (bhavān)]; nirvartayet — are somehow able to support yourself [(ātmānaṁ katañcid dhārayet), or by which human beings still adhere to you (yad vā puruṣas tvāṁ sādhayet)]; [while]; ayam — the same; adharmaḥ — unrighteousness; kaliḥ — [in the form of] Kali [kali-rūpaḥ]; edhitaḥ — invigorated [samvardhitaḥ]; anṛtena — by falsehood; jighṛkṣati — intends to seize [or appropriate (grahītum icchati)]; tam — that remaining leg [tam api pādam].
Translation
O Dharma, at present you have just the one remaining leg of truth, by which you are somehow able to support yourself, while the same unrighteousness in the form of Kali, invigorated by falsehood, intends to seize that remaining leg.
