SB 1.17.24

तपः शौचं दया सत्यमिति पादाः कृते कृताः ।
अधर्मांशैस्त्रयो भग्नाः स्मयसङ्गमदैस्तव ॥ २४ ॥
tapaḥ śaucaṁ dayā satyam iti pādāḥ kṛte kṛtāḥ
adharmāṁśais trayo bhagnāḥ smaya-saṅga-madais tava

Synonyms

kṛte — in Satyayuga; [your four (tava catvāraḥ)134]; pādāḥ — legs; iti — repre-esenting; tapaḥ — austerity; śaucam — purity; dayā — compassion; satyam — [and] truth; kṛtāḥ — were all firmly in place [pūrṇā avartanta135]; [yet]; trayaḥ — three; tava — of your [legs (pādāḥ)136]; bhagnāḥ — [are now] broken; aṁśaiḥ — by the pillars [pādaiḥ137]; adharma — [of] unrighteousness; smaya — [in the form of] pride [garvaḥ138]; saṅga — attachment [particularly in the matter of sexual relations (strībhir saṅgaḥ)139]; madaiḥ — [and] intoxication [induced by drinking wine or liquor (madhu-pānajaḥ)140]; [In this regard, pride, or the inflated estimation of oneself, is the cause of the destruction of austerity (tatra svasmin utkarṣa-dhīḥ smayaḥ sa ca tapo-nāśa-hetuḥ), attachment opposes purity (saṅgaḥ śauca-virodhī), and intoxication, which decapacitates the conscious functioning of discernment, prevents one from noticing the sufferings of the afflicted, and thus the person so intoxicated fails to extend compassion (citta-vikāraḥ vivekākṣamatva-rūpaḥ madenārttānām ārttim apaśyan na dayāṁ kurute).141].

Translation

In Satyayuga, your four legs—representing austerity, purity, compassion, and truth—were all firmly in place. Yet three of your legs are now broken by the pillars of unrighteousness in the form of pride, attachment, and intoxication.
