नातिदूरे किलाश्चर्यं यदासीत्तन्निबोध मे ॥ १७ ॥
nātidūre kilāścaryaṁ yad āsīt tan nibodha me

tasya — while he [Parīkṣit52]; anvaham — [was] daily [anudinam53]; vartamānasya — engaged in following [anuvartamānasya54]; vṛttim — the virtuous conduct [ācaritam55]; pūrveṣām — of his forefathers; evam — in the manner previously described [pūrvokta-prakāreṇa]; yat56 — which [i.e., a]; kila — particularly; āścaryam — astonishing event; āsīt — occurred; na ati-dūre — not far away [nearby (samīpam eva); or soon thereafter (śīghram eva)57]; nibodha — learn [or hear (śṛṇu)]; me — from me [mattaḥ]; tat — of this event.
Translation
While Parīkṣit was daily engaged in following the virtuous conduct of his forefathers in the manner previously described, a particularly astonishing event occurred not far away. Listen while I describe this event.
