कृष्णावेशेन तच्चित्तः पितृभिः स्वक्षयं ययौ ॥ ४९ ॥
kṛṣṇāveśena tac-cittaḥ pitṛbhiḥ sva-kṣayaṁ yayau
Synonyms
viduraḥ api — Vidura too; tat-cittaḥ — [with] his mind exclusively intent on Him [(kṛṣṇaika-viṣayaka-cittaḥ);291 or with his mind offered to Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s lotus feet (śrī kṛṣṇāṅghri samarpita-cittaḥ)292]; āveśena — by total absorption [intense love (anurāgeṇa);293 or focused awareness (samādhānena)294]; kṛṣṇa — [in] Śrī Kṛṣṇa; parityajya — gave up; ātmanaḥ — his; deham — body [the form of a devatā and not that of an eternal associate (devatā-rūpa eva na tu pārṣada-rūpaḥ)295]; prabhāse — at Prabhāsa [while on pilgrimage (tīrthāny aṭan)296]; yayau — [and] returned [by means of his partial expansion, as a matter of cosmic play (līlayā kāyavyūheneti jñeyam)297]; sva-kṣayam — to his own abode [Yamaloka;298 the seat of his administrative authority (svādhikāra-sthānam); meaning that he became Yama once again and went to his own abode (punar yama eva bhūtvā sva-lokaṁ yayau)299]; pitṛbhiḥ — accompanied by the residents of Pitṛloka [the Pitṛ-devatās;300 who had come there to escort him at that time (tadānīṁ netum āgataiḥ pitṛbhiḥ saha)].
Translation
Vidura too, with his mind exclusively intent on Śrī Kṛṣṇa by total absorption in Him, gave up his body at Prabhāsa and returned to his own abode [Yamaloka, the seat of his administrative authority], accompanied by the residents of Pitṛloka [who had come there to escort him at that time].
