SB 1.15.19
सख्युः सखेव पितृवत्तनयस्य सर्वं सेहे महान्महितया कुमतेरघं मे ॥ १९ ॥
aikyād vayasya ṛtavān iti vipralabdhaḥ
sakhyuḥ sakheva pitṛvat tanayasya sarvaṁ
sehe mahān mahitayā kumater aghaṁ me
Synonyms
aikyāt — due to our intimacy [the oneness of being between us (paraspara-prāṇa-aikyāt);113 or the feeling that there was no difference between us (avyatirekād hetoḥ)114]; śayyā — [we used to] lie down on the same bed; āsana — sit on the same seat; aṭana — walk; vikatthana — boast [sva-guṇa-ślāghanādi]; bhojana — [and] dine together; ādiṣu — among other such acts; [sometimes, when I caught Him in a contradiction (kadācit vyabhicāraṁ dṛṣṭvā); meaning when He playfully contradicted His own words (līlayā svokti vilaṅghanādi-rūpam)115]; vipralabdhaḥ — [although] He was slighted [tiraskṛto’pi]; [by my sarcastic remarks (vakroktyā)]; iti — such as; vayasya — O friend; ṛtavān — how truthful You are! [satya-yuktas tvam]; [yet (tad api)116]; mahān mahitayā — out of His supreme magnanimity [ati-mahattvena]; sehe — He tolerated [soḍhavān117]; sarvam — all; agham — offenses [aparādham]; kumateḥ me — [committed by] a fool like me [kumater mama118]; sakhā iva — just as a friend; [tolerates the criticisms (aghaṁ sahate)119]; sakhyuḥ — of a friend; pitṛvat — [or] as a father; [tolerates the misdeeds (aghaṁ sahate)120]; tanayasya — of his son.
Translation
Due to our intimacy, we used to lie down on the same bed, sit on the same seat, walk, boast, and dine together, among other such acts. [Sometimes, when I caught Him playfully contradicting His own words,] although I insulted Him with sarcastic remarks, such as, “O friend, how truthful You are!” yet, out of His supreme magnanimity, He tolerated all offenses committed by a fool like me, just as a friend tolerates the criticisms of a friend or as a father tolerates the misdeeds of his son.
