निर्जित्य सङ्ख्ये त्रिदशांस्तदाशिषो हरन्ति वज्रायुधवल्लभोचिताः ॥ ३७ ॥
satyādayo dvy-aṣṭa-sahasra-yoṣitaḥ
nirjitya saṅkhye tri-daśāṁs tad-āśiṣo
haranti vajrāyudha-vallabhocitāḥ
Synonyms
mukhya-karmaṇā — by embracing as their primary function [superior to penance or any other undertaking (tapa ādibhyaḥ śreṣṭaṁ yat-karma tena)124]; śuśrūṣaṇa — the service [paricaraṇa125]; yat — of whose [Kṛṣṇa’s (kṛṣṇasya)126]; pāda — feet; dvi-aṣṭa — the twice eight; sahasra — thousand; yoṣitaḥ — women [wives of Bhagavān (bhagavad-bhāryāḥ)127]; satya-ādayaḥ — headed by Satyabhāmā; nirjitya — defeated [by Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s might (śrī-kṛṣṇa-balena)]; tri-daśān — the devas [devān]; saṅkhye — in battle [yuddhe]; haranti — [and] took away; tat-āśiṣaḥ — the objects enjoyed by them [such as the pārijāta tree and its flowers (deva-bhogyān pārijātādīn)]; ucitāḥ — [which are] fit; vajra-āyudha-vallabhā — [for] the wife of Indra, Śacī [lit., “the beloved of he whose weapon is the thunderbolt, including Śacī and others” (vajram āyudhaṁ yasya sa indro vallabhaḥ priyo yāsāṁ tāsāṁ śacyādīnām)128].
Translation
By embracing the service of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s feet as their primary function, the sixteen thousand wives of Bhagavān, headed by Satyabhāmā, defeated the devas in battle and took away the objects enjoyed by them [such as the pārijāta tree and its flowers], which are fit for the wife of Indra, Śacī.
